We are writing to inform you that starting this Sunday we will make our sanctuary available to the community to watch our live stream services via our big screen. In line with the government restrictions, we can only accommodate those that are vaccinated and willing to wear a mask in the building. For those that might not understand such a decision, we ask that you view our auditorium here as a living room. We will be watching the service on the screen in the building in the same way as any individual who would be watching from the comfort of their personal living rooms in their own home. The whole service will continue to be streamed live from our makeshift studio.
In our Sunday service this week we have sought to be transparent and explore our reaction to the latest complex restrictions imposed by Northern Health. During last week’s church-wide zoom call, we shared our hearts and laid down our preferences, seeking to be guided by our highest value, love. Our leaders, and elders too, have agonized, consulted and called out to God for wisdom to care for our church family in what has seemed an unreasonable choice for the church. It is so important to communicate that we believe our God-given vision (follow, equip, serve) has been instrumental in keeping us attentive to the Spirit’s leading. We have sought to not just serve ourselves, but also our community by providing this additional space at this time to provide further care for the elderly, isolated, and lonely, and more spaces to share the gospel. In these decisions, we are seeking to be an example of unity without uniformity, and of sacrificial love within conflict. In a world that seems to be more divided and polarized, how powerful is it to live in love, even when we do not always agree.
We believe that the church must earn the right with our community to share the Gospel. We believe that the best option to earn that right is to continue to honour the imposed government laws. We have been told these laws exist not to forbid worship but to protect the communities of Northern BC. It is important to recognise our witness through our posture of love, submission and support as we submit “to one another out of reverence for Christ” (Ephesians 5:21).
We will open the doors of the church at 9:15AM for streaming Northstar Kids at 9:30AM and our service at 10AM. We encourage you to continue to appropriately invite friends and neighbours into your homes and now the building to watch the service and to continue living out the “one another’s” of Scripture. We as a leadership believe this unanimous decision is the necessary one at this time. We anticipate that sweet day of unbridled celebration when we can all gather again in person to worship. Finally, Church Family, let’s together continue to pray for unity and protection for the local, national and global church. May we never forget that the church is Christ’s bride who He will unconditionally love for all eternity.
If you have any questions or concerns, we humbly invite you to please contact our Elders Board Chair Travis Englund (email@example.com) and please don’t hesitate to call us at the office. (250-992-8830)
Sincerely in Him,
Northstar Church Leadership
